The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, the favorite hunt for wildlife enthusiasts, lies on the northwestern side of the Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains) in Nilgiri District. The sanctuary has also been declared as a tiger reserve and it is situated about 160 km north-west of Coimbatore with its interstate boundaries with Karnataka and Kerala states in South India. This 321-sq-kms wide sanctuary includes a National Park measuring an area of 103-sq-kms.

 

Mudumalai, which means 'first hills’, is home to many endangered species like the Indian White-rumped Vulture and the long-billed vulture. One can spot endangered Indian elephants, vulnerable Gaur, and Chital at Muthumalai. Besides, a lucky wildlife observer may sometimes stumble upon the sight of a Bengal Tigers…
