Kannur is a rare combination of history, tradition and natural beauty. For the sports enthusiasts, Kannur-Thalassery region is the home ground for Indian circus. Also Thalassery was one of the first Indian cities to play cricket.
From Kerala beach houses, Kannur has some of the best beaches which comprises of Muzhappilangad, Payyambalam, Meenkunnu and Mopila Bay and of Muzhappilangad is the only drive in beach. These beach houses in Kannur are the virgin beaches favored hangout of the tourists. Hot tourists spot includes two forts- St. Angelo’s Fort known as Kannur Fortor Kannur Kotta, is a fort facing the Arabian Sea, Thalassery Fort, Ezhimala Indian Naval Academy well-kept by the Indian Navy, The Aralam Sanctuary situated on the western slopes of the Western Ghats. Another gem is Kannur Theyyam, there are a large number of temples in Kannur where Theyyam is performed. Parassinikadavu is far-famed for its Sree Muthappan Temple. This pilgrim center situated on the bank of Valapattanam River is famed for the Muthappan Theyyam performed daily. The pooram festival of Madayi Kavu held at Madayipara has much spiritual being. Not to be missed out is the Vismaya Amusement Park and Sadhoo Merry Kingdom. It captures the exotic of Kannur in full luster.
