This historical city in North Goa district was constructed by the Bijapur Sultanate in the 15th century. It was the capital of Portuguese India, and now the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Old Goa is mainly famous for its churches of historical and religious relevance. Se Cathedral (the seat of the Archbishop of Goa), the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the Church of S. Caetano, and notably, the Basilica of Bom Jesus which contains the relics of Saint Francis Xavier, are the main churches situated in Old Goa.
