Kancheepuram
Former capital of the Pallava kings, Kancheepuram is more or less a holy site filled with lots of temples (dating from 8th to 17th centuries), earning the nickname ‘City of thousand temples’. Kancheepuram’s temples offer a perfect study of the evolutionary changes that the South Indian architecture underwent with different reigns. It was also the sacred seat of Sri Shankaracharya, the pioneering sage of ‘Adwaita Vedanta’ philosophy.
