Guruvayur is also noted for its rich history of classical performing arts. Krishnanattam - the dance of Krishna is the cultural program and religious discourses conducted at Guruvayur temple. It is from this sacred place Melpathoor Narayana Bhattathiri and Poonthanam gave birth to classical literary works like Narayaneeyam and Jnanappana. Guruvayur is one of the chief venues for the south Indian classical Carnatic music which is held on Ekadesi day to memorialize legendary vocalist Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar.

Guruvayoor temple timings start at 3:00 am with Nirmalyam and soon after Ucha pooja temple will be closed at 1:30 pm and  reopens at 4.30 pm with Seeveli and will closed by around 9:15 pm.

In addition to all  is the Guruvayur Devaswom elephant sanctuary, an  interesting spot for pilgrims as well as tourists with around 51 elephants. It is one of the largest elephant sanitarium in all over the world, also known as Punnathurkotta, an ancient fort which is 3km far from Guruvayur Temple.
