Malappuram’s temples and mosques are well known for their festivals. Thirunavaya temple is most prominent one in the district. Here, in medieval times, people used to celebrate their great pageant festival, mamankam. The congregation of rulers of Malabar was staged here in Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathappuzha River.
