Staring Dutch Palace
Dutch Palace was not built by the Dutch!
This palace was actually built by the Portuguese and was presented to the King of Kochi in 1555. But the Dutch took it over during their supremacy, renovated it and made additions. This was completed in 1663 and then on the palace is called the Dutch palace or Mattancherry palace.
A major attraction of Dutch Palace is the great collection of murals inside the chambers. They are based on stories from the epic Ramayana. They span across nearly 1000 sq.ft in area and are believed to belong to the 16th and 17th centuries.
The palace is located 13 km from the city.
